Saegertown Couple Establish Scholarship

Some exceptional high school seniors from the Saegertown area will find it easier to pay for college thanks to the generosity of Evelyn and Chalmer Jordan. A gift of $250,000 to the Crawford Heritage Foundation established the Evelyn and Chalmer Jordan Scholarship Fund. Each and every year, forever, a percentage of the permanent endowment will be awarded.

“At least three scholarships of not less than $3,000 each will be given next year,” said Christian Maher, Executive Director. “And, as the endowment grows more money will be granted in future years to help deserving students defray a portion of the increasing cost of higher education.”

Scholarships will be presented annually to select graduating seniors residing within a two-mile radius of Saegertown Borough or attending Saegertown Junior Senior High School. Applications for the scholarship will be available from the Foundation in January. Completed applications are due back no later than May 1, 2009.

“There are many intelligent students in Saegertown who understand the importance of a good education but need some help to pay for it. This is a wonderful way for us to invest in the future of a community that has granted us so much good fortune,” said Chalmer Jordan.
