The Crawford Heritage Community Foundation has recently awarded grants totaling $12,904 to fifteen different projects. Grants are made county-wide from their Unrestricted Fund and Ben Franklin Trust, in the Titusville area from the Fred Lintner Fund and from the Bernadene R. and John B. Cooley Fund to benefit programs for children and youth. The Foundation gives back to the community through discretionary grants. They prioritize giving to improve upon the effectiveness of existing programs and support projects that incorporate preventive or curative approaches to the problems and challenges of our community.

The Academy Theatre presents high-quality performing arts events in Meadville. A portion of the cost of replacing the theatre’s deteriorating boiler will be defrayed with $1,000.
Two programs help low-to-moderate income people prepare their tax returns to take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at Allegheny College will purchase supplies with $1,100 and the Titusville Area United Way’s Center for Financial Independence will receive a laptop computer at a cost of $760.
Big Brothers and Sisters of Crawford County provides adult mentors to improve children’s self-esteem, keep them active in school and away from alcohol and illegal drugs. Transportation for a trip to Pittsburgh museums is provided with $918.
Center for Family Services, Inc. helps people and families in Crawford County during times of crisis by providing food, clothing and other types of assistance. Updated education program materials will be purchased with $868.
The City of Meadville is improving Diamond Park to provide a comfortable, scenic refuge in the heart of the city. Half of the cost of one new bench will be defrayed with $500.
The Cochranton Area Redevelopment Effort, Inc. is working toward improving the recreational facilities and beauty of the Cochranton area. It received $200 toward the cost of new welcome signs to the borough.
The Conneaut Lake Area Little League will defray half of the cost of a new set of bleachers with $900.
The Conneaut Lake Borough received a portion of the cost of new bike racks for the Fireman’s Beach Playground with $675.
A composting projected to teach students practical concepts of environmental, biological and chemical sciences will be initiated at Cochranton Jr./Sr. High School. Materials will be purchased with $700.
Crawford County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) trains and provides volunteers to advocate for children involved in juvenile court proceedings, primarily as a result of abuse and neglect. They will receive a computer at a cost of $750.
The Crawford County Coalition of Housing Needs addresses housing and homelessness in our area by providing access to shelter and affordable housing. They will receive a computer at a cost of $750.
The Crawford County Federated Library System will purchase new electronic books for its collection with $500.
The Crawford County Historical Society preserves and interprets the history and culture of Crawford County for future generations. Funding is provided for the purchase of archival preservation materials with $640.
The Crawford County Literacy Council, Inc. provides adult literacy programs through its READ program. They will receive a computer for the Titusville Office at a cost of $750.
French Creek Council, Boy Scouts of America holds a Cub Scout Day Camp each year that teaches outdoor and teamwork skills. Supplies for the program will be purchased with $520.
Jamestown Elementary School band and choir students will attend a musical production in Pittsburgh. Bus transportation will be underwritten with $290.
Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. teaches young people about business and helps them build skills for the real world. Supplies will be purchased for a program that teaches middle school students about the energy industry with $350.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Mentoring Program assists Crawford Central School District students in mastering their school work and sharpening their career building skills and character. Supplies for the arts and culture component of the program are funded with $566.
The Meadville Family YMCA promotes healthy living in the community through recreational, fitness and wellness programs and facilities. The cost of a new pool lift required by the Americans with Disabilities Act will be defrayed with $1,500.
The Meadville Garden Club Trees of Christmas program helps support the preservation of the Baldwin Reynolds house with a Christmas display. Supplies for this year’s program will be purchased with $200.
The Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry & Tourism provides a historic Titusville Walking Tour for visitors and residents. A portion of the cost to print brochures will be defrayed with $320.
The Titusville Toy Shop produces quality hand-made wooden toys for needy children during Christmas. New sanders will be purchased with $725. The Titusville Woodlawn Corporation provides the upkeep and management of the Woodlawn Cemetery. Purchase of a new cyclone rake is defrayed with $625.
The United Way of Western Crawford County’s Community Improvement Center builds handicap access ramps and completes minor home repairs for low-income and senior citizen homeowners. They received $1,142 to purchase building tools and materials.
The YWCA of Titusville is focused on empowering women and celebrating cultural differences. Their iGirl program mentors and empowers young girls through sport and activity. They will receive a computer at a cost of $760.
