Gill Family Scholarship Fund
In 2002, Dr. Robert Sheehan, Dr. Richard McCarl, and Cochranton Mayor Harry Wood, (all Cochranton High School graduates) established the Richard T. Gill Memorial Scholarship to honor Richard T. Gill and “all the men and women who attended Cochranton High School and served their country” in both military and civilian life.
In 2021, the scholarship’s dedication was revised to honor three Gill siblings who served their country in the military.
- Lt. Col. Richard T. Gill, an Air Force pilot, served during the Korean War and Vietnam War
- Lt. James E. Gill, a Navy pilot, served during World War II and the Korean War
- Airman Second Class Constance Gill Merchbaker, served in the Air Force during the Korean War
The Gill Family Scholarship Fund is an annual award to a graduating senior from Cochranton Junior-Senior High School who has:
A. Demonstrated leadership ability
B. Earned the respect of Cochranton Junior-Senior High School students and faculty
C. Given service to the school, community, and/or a church
D. Achieved good academic standing
